One million roses for Chisinau

Head of the Communal Department Mihai Solcan, interim director of the Green Spaces Management Association Eliferie Haruta and the director of “Autosalubritate” Management Tudor Maniv have recently paid a study visit to Moscow, where they met with several specialists in the filed of green spaces, dwelling fund and road management, and visited a wastewater treatment plant. The working group of the Chisinau City Hall visited one of those 125 Unique Information Centres in Moscow where they were informed about the way the Centres are functioning. At the same time, the Moldovan delegation has discussed with the representatives of the Centre for supporting the fusion of private homeowners under the Prefect’s Office of the Central-Administrative District of Moscow. Mihai Solcan told a news conference on May 17 that the City Hall will use the efficient administration models of the dwelling fund. In this respect, the Department works out an action plan for reviving the dwelling fund, which will be presented to the future Municipal Council. The programme, according to Solcan, includes transforming municipal dwelling management enterprises into condominium associations and lays out the pricing policy. For his part, Eliferie Haruta said that he was impressed about the way the green spaces are maintained. The Moscow City Hall administrates 5 nursing beds and hothouses with a total area of 20 hectares. During one year, in one district of Moscow alone there are planted 60 million flowers, Haruta says. “I searched all around Moscow for one single person with a scythe, as this is how the green spaces in Chisinau are looked after at present, and I fond none”, Haruta sai. Compared with Chisinau, in Moscow all the works are mechanised. In one district of Moscow alone, 10 thousand workers take care of 3-5 thousand hectares of green areas. In Chisinau, only 400 workers look after those 3.6 thousand hectares of green areas. According to the same sources, about 17 million tulips and other several millions of other flower species are planted in Moscow each year. According to Haruta, this experience will be extremely useful to the authorities of Chisinau, which intend to plant about 1 million roses within the next two years. A delegation from Moscow plans to visit Chisinau this summer. Besides the agreements on the experience exchange, the two parties will also sign agreements in the fields of culture and trade.
