One killed, two hurt in Orhei factory explosion

A person was killed and two were injured in an explosion at a tobacco factory in Orhei town. Press officer of the Orhei Police Inspectorate Diana Maxim has told IPN that the three men were testing an air compressor tank when the blast occurred.

One of them, aged 43, died. Another one of 50 was rushed to the hospital and he is now out of danger. The third man of 64 refused to be hospitalized.

The case was classed as occupational accident. The State Labor Inspectorate is to present a report on the conducted investigation and a decision as to the starting of a criminal case will be taken afterward, stated Diana Maxim.

Contacted by IPN, Dumitru Stavila, director of the State Labor Inspectorate, said the circumstances of the incident are yet to be found out. The results of the investigation will become known in 30 days.

The 22 deadly accidents at work recorded so far this year claimed 25 lives. Over 30 serious work accidents also occurred. Compared with the corresponding period last year, the number of serious accidents has declined, but the cases that resulted in temporary incapacity for work increased in number, said Dumitru Stavila.
