One in four Moldovan children is born outside of family, said Valentina Buliga, Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child, at the meeting of the Investigative Journalism Club on Friday, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Minister says many children in the country are devoid of parental warmth, because their parents are working abroad. “These children miss the sense of a home and the parental love they should be given at home, the place where they should feel protected and happy. Family is the cradle of a child’s happiness”. According to Valentina Buliga, her ministry is preparing to launch a system that will keep record of every child born in Moldova, in particular of those deemed at risk, those with disabilities, or abandoned. Speaking to the Club, Valentina Buliga also addressed the issue of exploitation of children through labor. She says child labor must not be a tradition for the parents, including because physical exertion may cause severe health problems to a growing organism. The ministry, together with local social assistants, local authorities and experts in the field, will engage actively in countering child labor, Minister Buliga assured. She went on to add that Moldova experiences a deficit of qualified social assistance personnel, this is why an ample process of training social assistants is in progress in the country, in particular in rural areas, with a focus on underprivileged children. The ministry’s policies are aimed at ensuring education within families for every child.
