One computer for 28 Moldovan pupils
The number of school computers related to the number of Moldovan pupils is 1 to 28. The authorities hope to decrease this ratio to 17-18 pupils by later this year. The data was presented at an International Conference on implementing IT technologies in education, unfolding in Chisinau on March 12 and 13.
According to the Moldovan Education and Youth Minister, Victor Tvircun, today one computer connected to the internet rests with 40 pupils. Three years ago, before the launch of the Educational Program on implementing informational and communicational technologies “Salt”, a computer connected to the internet rested with 802 pupils.
The minister said, starting from 2005, endowing schools with computers has been done, as teachers have been trained. They decided to develop and implement educational software, that is, e-lessons. In 2007, 3,600 machines were bought, as the trend is going on this year. Now all the lycees have at least one computer room, as over 12,000 teachers have been trained to use computers.
By the end of 2008, the authorities plan that at least half of the Moldovan high schools use educational software. The Education Ministry believes the software developed in Moldova is a good to be sold, one of the conference’s goals being to present the attainments the country has achieved. Another objective is to coordinate the domestic actions with the educational processes in European countries.
Representatives of the informational-educational system from over 10 countries attend the conference.
