Oncologists from districts can refer patients diagnosed with cancer to CT scans

As from this July, the oncologist from districts have the right to prescribe high-performance examinations for persons diagnosed with cancer for the first time. The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), in concert with the Oncology Institute, extended the right to prescribe such examinations in a bid to increase access and reduce waiting time for the first computed tomography scan, IPN reports, with reference to the company.

Earlier, the ticket for such examinations was issued by medical specialists of the Diagnostic Consultative Center of the Oncology Institute. The new decision reduces the waiting time of examinations.

To increase the patients’ access to the given services, CNAM signed additional agreements with a number of providers of high-performance medical services for over 2,000 scans to the total value of about 5 million lei. The given examinations are performed by six public and private providers that signed contracts with CNAM.

According to Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco, high-performance equipment and better medicines are bought for the Oncology Institute that is on the list of institutions that will benefit from equipment purchased with the €8 million grant provided by the Government of Japan.
