The Oncological Institute was offered a modern ultrasound machine and 2,000 vials of Trastuzumab, which is used to treat patients with cancer. The donation was made by the World Health Organization with the support of the European Union and the Government of Canada, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Health said the machine was already installed and the patients benefit from abdominal ultrasound and invasive procedures, such as image-guided biopsy.
Trastuzumab is indicated especially for treating patients with breast cancer and gastric cancer. This medicine is needed in the treatment of 25% of all the cases of breast cancer existing in Moldova.
The total value of the donation is US$370,793.
