Oncologic Institute saves electricity through photovoltaic system

The Oncologic Institute of Moldova inaugurated a photovoltaic system that will ensure the additional uninterrupted supply of electric power. The system was installed with a grant of about US$5 million provided by the Government of Japan within the Scheme Program Grant Aid for Environment and Climate Change, IPN reports.

In the inauguration, the Institute’s director Victor Cernat said the designing and installation works started last autumn. The solar batteries were placed on the roofs of the Institute’s surgery block and policlinic. The system will be extended to the roof of a parking lot that is to be built. The area will thus total 9,000 square meters.

The Institute will contribute by setting up the parking lot. The works will cost 700,000 lei. According to the director, the system will enable to save about 600,000 lei a year.

Japanese Ambassador in Chisinau Toichi Sakata voiced hope that this project will contribute to diversifying the energy resources and will establish continuous cooperation relations between Moldova and Japan.

The grant was administered by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
