President Nicolae Timofty conferred the Gloria Muncii Order on weightlifters Cristina Iovu and Anatol Ciricu for their performances at the Summer Olympics in London, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The President also offered state distinctions to National Olympic Committee vice president Nicolae Piatac, hammer-thrower Zalina Marghiev and coaches Ivan Bratan and Serghei Grecu.
“I believe that we are able to produce Olympic champions and I hope that at the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro we will obtain medals of a greater value. I also hope that the authorities' contribution will stimulate our athletes to work harder and deliver great performances. I wish you success!”, stated Nicolae Timofti at the awarding ceremony.
Anatol Ciricu and Cristina Iovu, both winners of bronze medals, together with Nicolae Piatac were awarded the Gloria Muncii Order. The Meritul Civic Medal was conferred on Athletics Federation president Anatolie Balan and on hammer-thrower Zalina Marghiev. Coaches Ivan Bratan and Serghei Grecu were offered the Om Emerit Title.
Anatol Ciricu told reporters that a great deal of energy and time was needed to achieve such performances, but now he saw it was worth doing it since the entire leadership of the country appreciated his effort.
