"As Minister of Justice, I cannot put forward the list of candidates pre-selected for the position of Prosecutor General." At a press briefing held on October 6, the Minister of Justice, Olesea Stamati, stated that she would issue an order canceling the result of the competition for the position of Prosecutor General.
"After announcing the preliminary results, the members of the commission who conducted the contest for the selection of the Prosecutor General received additional information regarding some candidates, that was unknown to them," said Olesea Stamati.
According to the Minister of Justice, the additional analyses of the last days do not allow her to conclude that "this competition meets the conditions provided by law".
In Olesea Stamati’s opinion, another equally important aspect is the fact that one of the members of the commission evaluated some candidates in a clearly disproportionate manner in relation to the assessment made by other members of the commission. "This fact distorted the final result, essentially influencing the result of the competition," stressed Olesea Stamati.
The Minister of Justice mentioned that, without the disproportionate score offered by that member of the commission, Veaceslav Soltan’s name would not be on the final list, his place being taken by Stefan Gligor.
