Oleg Voronin's name appears in new scandal related to land sale
Oleg Voronin, the son of the former President Vladimir Voronin, facilitated several years ago the purchase of a plot of land in Chisinau for a price that was at least ten times lower than its value. The plot that is over two hectares in area is situated in the most expensive area of Chisinau – Ciocarliei St near Valea Morii Park. It was bought by Moldconstruct Market SRL, where Oleg Voronin worked as an economist according to the documents, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca told a news conference on May 5, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The mayor distributed a press report titled “Cases of illegal sale of plots in the municipality of Chisinau” which contains copies of the draft decisions concerning those transactions.
According to the mayor, on July 25, 2006, the Chisinau Municipal Council adopted the decision to auction plots of land, including the one located on Ciocarliei St at the initial price of 30 million lei. On August 1, the commission for construction, architecture and financial resources headed by Eduard Smirnov, of the Communist faction, proposed selling the plot for 3 million lei. In the August 3 meeting of the Council, the Communist councilors who, constituted the majority at that time, accepted the proposal. The plot was purchased at an auction by Moldconstruct Market SRL for 4.5 million lei. “An are was sold for €1,323 at a time when an are in that zone costs €10,000-20,000,” Chirtoaca said.
In another connection, the mayor stressed that until he is in office he will not accept SA Vitecontract's claim on a plot of five hectares situated in the zone of the Airport. The company sued the City Hall, making reference to a Government Decision of 1998 regarding the construction of an agricultural trading center. It won the case at the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Justice. The Chisinau administration appealed the decisions to court.
