Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian assures there are not risks for the Republic  of Moldova to be engaged in the war in Ukraine. According to the official, the incidents in the Transnistrian region were aimed at generating panic in the area and at destabilizing the whole country. The issuing of a red alert for terrorist attacks in the Transnistrian region is useless as there are no risks for the region to be involved in a military conflict, IPN reports.

Oleg Serebrian said the recent provocations in the Transnistrian region represent actions of pro-war forces from the region. There are warlike groups there, but the idea of involvement in the military conflict in Ukraine is not shared by the separatist leaders in Tiraspol. The panic in the region made many citizens leave their homes there.

“The expositions that occurred there had minor effects. Persons weren’t hurt. No one claimed those so-called terrors acts and this generates questions. When an act of terrorism is committed, this is claimed. The caused damage was rather minor. The effect was mostly psychological. Panic is witnessed in the region, at the points for crossing the demarcation line. There is no panic on the right side of the Nistru,” Oleg Serebrian stated in the talk show “Thursday with Liliana Barbăroșie” on the public TV channel.

The official noted that even if the European partners expressed their concerned about the recent developments, there are no imminent risks to the country’s security at the moment.

“The issued red alert is annoying as we do not see any reasons for being concerned about a real danger. We consider there is no danger for the area being involved in the military conflict. There were some explosions that had repercussions for the psychological state, but we cannot say there are risks that the Republic of Moldova will be involved in a military conflict. There is no risk that these tensions, which are not yet neglected, will turn into a military conflict. Unlike Ukraine, we weren’t warned about the imminence of involvement in the military conflict,” stated Serebrian.

On April 25, the state security ministry in Tiraspol was attacked with grenade launchers. The airdrome in Tiraspol was attacked and two radio transmitters were destroyed in Mayak village one day later. On April 28, Bulgaria issued a travel advisory, urging its citizens to avoid travelling to Moldova in connection with the difficult situation. Germany also issued a travel alert, but only for the Transnistrian region.
