A new edition of the book entitled “Russia at a rossroads. Geo-history, geo-culture and geopolitics”, written by ambassador and writer Oleg Serebrian, was launched in Chisinau in the evening of February 11. According to the author, this is a revised edition, with some of the data updated after six years. The new volume is already available from bookstores in Moldova and Romania, IPN reports.
“The volume appeared in 2014, immediately after turbulent events that happened in the Black Sea area. So, in a way it is a follow-up to the first book on regional geopolitics, geopolitics of the Pontic area that was printed at the publishing house “Dacia” in Cluj in 1998,” stated the expert in political sciences. The first volume and the two editions in French were already sold.
According to him, Russia is a fascinating geopolitical player not only for our region. “It is a global player and that’s why it was interesting for me to present it not from the angle of contemporary geopolitics, but rather from the angle of geo-history and geo-culture as the geo-cultural sector is often neglected. It is the Russian geo-cultural element for the East-European, Central, Asian, Caucasian areas, especially because this geo-cultural dimension is important for two pan-ideas related to pan-Slavic and Eurasian Russia,” stated Oleg Serebrian.
“This is the second edition of a book, including in French, and something like this is very important. This book somehow complements both his geopolitics and history studies and his artistic writings. An author of novels and an author of studies that is the same erudite, sincere and very open person,” said the editor-in-chief of “Cartier” publishing house, writer Emilian Galaicu-Păun.
Expert in political sciences Alexandru Solcan said this study is highly appreciated by students of the International Relations Department as the book centers on geopolitics. The topical problem is not the lack of information, but the surplus of inflation. Oleg Serebrian offers a methodology that enables to synthetize this information flow, ending with pertinent conclusions and interesting predictions. “Mister Serebrian knows very well the subject he addresses and this brings value added to the book,” stated Alexandru Solcan.
Oleg Serebrian is a Moldovan expert in political sciences, writer, diplomat and politician. In 2012, he was conferred the Special Award of the Writers Union of Moldova for the novel “Song of the Sea”. In 2013, he became a member of the Writers Union of Moldova.
