The Communist government used the peaceful April 7, 2009 protests to destroy the building of the Parliament and the Presidential Office in order to accuse the Opposition of attempted coup and create an image in front of the Western organizations and press, Chisinau councilor Oleg Cernei said after he had been questioned at the Prosecutor General's Office for about four hours. He was quizzed as a witness in the cases opened over the April events and the actions taken by the Special Police Brigade “Fulger”, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The two buildings were devastated on purpose, while the police did not ensure their security. When the crowd approached the Presidential Office, there were only about 20 employees of the Patrol and Sentinel Regiment “Scut”. Practically, it was an order for the police not to intervene given by Papuc {(Gheorghe Papuc, former Minister of the Interior – e.n.)},” Cernei said. Oleg Cernei also said that 800 of the 1,300 police officers who were on duty on April 7 were dressed in civies. They infiltrated into the protesters and did not fulfill their duties to guard the buildings that were vandalized. “Voronin cheats when he says he ordered not to shoot as he was to give an elementary order to protect the two buildings from where state awards were stolen,” Cernei said. According to the councilor, Vladimir Voronin, Gheorghe Papuc and former police Commissioner of Chisinau Vladimir Botnari are to blame for the destruction of the two buildings. Cernei said that after the protesters threw stones at them during the day, the police officers took revenge on them at night, torturing them and persons who did not event take part in the protests, by Papuc's order. Vladimir Filat, Alexandru Tanase, Mihai Godea, Valeriu Cosarciuc, Dorin Chirtoaca and Mihai Ghimpu will be also questioned as witnesses in the April events case.
