The former candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau on behalf of the Party “Democracy at Home”, civic activist Oleg Brega said none of the two candidates who will compete in the second round of the mayoral elections in Chisinau is suitable for the post of mayor. He made such a statement in the program “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
“They are both noxious and dangerous for the public interest. No matter who wins the elections - the candidate of the Socialists or that of the Liberals – corruption will flourish at the Chisinau City Hall. Thus, I see no difference between them. After the election results were made public, I was courted by both of the camps to speak before the cameras and convince the voters to support one of them. I support political beliefs of the left and I’m unionist too. I rejected their offer. The people who voted for me, even if in a low number, will not accept such a bargain,” he stated.
The former election runner considers the Party of Socialists has an excuse before the voters for the created situation – the fact that it is in the opposition. “Dorin Chirtoaca had enough time to do something, but he didn’t. Corruption flourishes at the City Hall. He has no excuse, especially because there was a period when the Liberals were in power and the mayor’s uncle was head of state. He has no excuse. Therefore, I consider that the Socialists have bigger chances in the second round of voting. But we should not forget that Grecheanyi, Dodon and others from their company had been in power and didn’t do great things either. They had been only involved in different scandals,” he stated.
According to Brega, the current legislature will complete its mandate. “They wil do everything possible and will form coalitions so as to avoid early elections. Those who are in power realize that this is their last mandate,” he stated.
In the June 14 local mayoral elections in Chisinau, independent candidate Oleg Brega polled 1.37% of the vote and ranked eighth out of 17 candidates.
