An old woman from Cobâlea village of Șoldănești district perished in a house fire. According to preliminary investigations, the woman left the stove door open and the embers that fell on the floor caused a fire, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that a team of firefighters and rescuers found the partially charred body of the 82-year-old owner in the house. They extinguish the fire in a few hours.
Rescuers repeatedly urge the people to be extremely cautious when starting fires in the stove and to strictly observe the safety rules. It is recommended that a metal sheet be placed next to the stove to prevent the risk of fire in case of embers falling on the floor. Moreover, special attention should be paid to the elderly and lonely people, who require help in starting and monitoring the fire in the stove.
Firefighters also recommend avoiding smoking in homes. Recently, a 75-year-old man from Cahul died in a fire that most probably was the result of reckless smoking. A number of cigarette butts were found in the house.
The 318 fires that occurred in the country so far this year resulted in 29 deaths.
