A large part of the buildings in Moldova were constructed 20-60 years ago and have poor thermal characteristics. These buildings account for 45% of the final energy consumption, the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction says in a communiqué, quoted by IPN.
The energy intensity in Moldova exceeds the intensity in the European countries almost three times. About 75% of the energy in buildings is used for heating.
The Ministry announced that it drafted a law on the energy performance of buildings, with the assistance of a project financed by the Shareholder Special Fund of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This bill will create the legal framework and mechanisms needed to improve the energy performance of buildings in the country.
