Office of discord in quarrel between Chisinau City Hall and police

The Chisinau municipality blames the Police Commissariat for abusively occupying a couple of rooms managed by the Buiucani district education direction, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Buiucani police reject the accusations. The office is in the building of the Technical Creation Centre on the Nicolae Costin street, 48. According to the City Hall PR direction, the rooms in question were ceded to the Buiucani Traffic Police in February 2005. The contract expired on February 17 this year. The local authorities say, up to now, they have recorded no request to prolong the office’s rent. The General Police Commissariat decided, without consulting the local authorities, to give that office to a police station, previously located on the Alba-Iulia street, 202/4, reads the PR direction communique. The Buiucani education direction disagrees with the decision of the police, and mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has asked Iacob Gumenita, the head of the municipal police, to unconditionally free the rooms on Nicolae Costin, until a relevant decision is taken. On the other hand, the Buiucani district deputy commissar, Rodion Budeanu, says he has repeatedly asked for the prolongation of the contract, but has got no reply from the City Hall so far. He says the office where police station nr. 8 was on Alba-Iulia, cannot be used any longer. The relationships between the local public authorities and the police strained last December, when the police chief refused to execute the mayor’s order to install the Christmas Tree on the Great National Assembly Square. The municipality said then the fur-tree in the square was later dismantled by the police at midnight and reinstalled behind the Triumph Arch nearby. Later, the Chisinau mayor was called by the prosecutor’s office, as requested by the police complaining the mayor had not consulted them in authorising the installation of the Christmas Tree near the City Hall and in suspending the traffic on the Vlaicu Parcalab street. In his turn, mayor Dorin Chirtoaca asked the municipal prosecutor’s office to search the actions undertaken by the police on December 24 and 25, 2007, which allegedly had not executed his orders. On February 19, the Centru district court started to hear the lawsuit filed by the police against the mayor.
