Office for Reintegration Policy announces Russia's military strength in Transnistria

The strength of the Russian military contingent within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces is 430 people. At the same time, about 1,500 other soldiers are part of the Russian Troops Task Force, according to an answer given to Realitatea by the Reintegration Policy Office, IPN reports.

The Joint Forces troops are in the Republic of Moldova on the basis of an agreement signed in July 1992, when the Dniester war ended. The mission is monitored by the Unified Control Commission, which includes delegations from Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE and representatives of the separatist administration.

The other 1500 soldiers from the Russian Task Force are on the territory of the Republic of Moldova without the consent of the constitutional authorities. These soldiers are violating the Constitution, Moldova's neutral status and international commitments.

"The file concerning the status and withdrawal of the GOTR servicemen without the right to stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is not subject of the Chisinau-Tiraspol negotiations and is not discussed on the dialog platforms with Tiraspol," the representatives of the Reintegration Policy Office state.

March 2, 2025 will mark 33 years since the outbreak of the Dniester war.
