Of 37 illegal checkpoints set up in Security Zone, 22 remained, Cristina Lesnic

Of the 37checkpiints placed unilaterally by the de facto Transnistrian authorities in the Security Zone, 22 remained, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic stated in Parliament when answering a question put by MP Kiril Moțpan in connection with the examination of the motion of no confidence, IPN reports.

Cristina Lesnic said she would like the Transnistrian conflict to be resolved peacefully. “We, I as the chief negotiator and my team and the Joint Control Commission, do not want the situation in the Security Zone to escalate as the Transnistrian conflict should be settled peacefully, as it was also noted in the ministerial conferences held in the 5+2 format. I think none of those present in this hall wants Moldova to return to the period when the solution was promoted by the use of weapons, 28 years ago,” stated the Deputy Prime Minister.

She also said that discussions on the reduction of the number of illegal checkpoints are held between experts. The Bureau of Reintegration realizes the problem related to the restricted movement of people and is ready to accept the MPs’ assistance if they are ready to lend a hand in solving this problem.

During the state of emergency declared due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Transnistrian authorities unilaterally set up 37 checkpoints in localities administered by the Moldovan constitutional authorities.
