Octavian Țîcu and Vladimir Cebotari about possible coalitions in next Parliament

The Democratic Party is ready for any scenario concerning the formation of a future legislative majority. The Democrats consider a broad coalition formed by the PDM, the Party of Socialists and the electoral bloc ACUM DA PAS would be an ideal solution. The bloc ACUM categorically opposes any alliance with the three parties that entered the new Parliament and considers the Democrats will try to attract MPs from the parliamentary groups of the PSRM and ACUM and form a coalition independently, IPN reports.

The head of the PDM’s staff Vladimir Cebotari, the party’s vice president, said the eventual coalition in the future legislature should be broad so that it represents more voters. “The ideal variant is probably a coalition between the PDM, ACUM and PSRM. Why not? We will then cover a wide range of voters,” he stated, noting snap elections are also possible or Andrei Năstase could form an alliance with the Socialists, not yet Maia Sandu.

“If they are reasonable and rational and came to Parliament to influence the state of affairs in the Republic of Moldova so that things improve, I think the bloc ACUM would agree to form a coalition with the PDM”. Vladimir Cebotari said the Democrats have a very clear task – to fight till the end so as to prevent the restoration of political instability.

As to the election campaign, Vladimir Cebotari said all the election runners entered the campaign in equal competition conditions. As regards voting at the polling places intended for Transnistrian voters, he noted the number of those who showed interest in the political life in Moldova was twice higher than in 2014.

Historian Octavian Țîcu, who ran in constituency No. 16 Ungheni on behalf of the bloc ACUM DA PAS, said the PDM can have 40 seats together with the Shor Party and the three independents and will try to obtain more seats from the PSRM and to shake this party’s group in Parliament. “It won’t be a proper coalition between the PDM and PSRM as this would kill the voters of the two parties. The members of the PDM who still believe in the pro-European value and the European values will join ACUM and the voters of the PSRM will also support the bloc, as the supporters of the Socialists voted for me in a larger number in Ungheni than for their party,” he said, noting the Democrats could also try to shake the group of ACUM.

“We signed a public commitment and promised not to cooperate with the parties that are an emanation of the regime of Plahotniuc, Shor and Dodon whose parties entered Parliament. This is the political will and the people should understand that another facet of politics appeared in the Republic of Moldova, based on morality and the promises we made and intend to deliver,” stated Țîcu.

He noted the bloc ACUM will not separate into two groups in Parliament, as it is rumored. “These rumors should be ended as ACUM DA PAS is a political brand in which a lot was invested. It was created based on the resistance movement ACUM around which the two parties and members of civil society crystalized. There are 6-7 people who come from outside these two parties and we thus plead for a consolidated bloc and common action as we yet have local elections that should be treated seriously,” he stated.

The ACUM candidate added the conditions in the recent election campaign weren’t equal for all the competitors and the elections weren’t free and fair.
