Moldova’s union with Romania is the key priority of the National Unity Party (PUN). The party’s leader said the electoral list of PUN includes valuable people, promoters of the union from both sides of the Prut. In the electoral debates staged by ProTV Chisinau, the president of the “New Historical Option” Party denied the accusations that this party is a spoiler party, IPN reports.
The “New Historical Option” Party recently changed its name into the Party of Alternatives and Chances, but the Central Election Commission refused to register its electoral symbol “PAȘ” for running in the July 11 elections with this. Svetlana Chesari said the party was renamed not for the purpose of misleading the voters of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS).
“The abbreviation of the name we identified could not be planned. We wanted to rename the party “Solidarity and Progress”, but the Public Services Agency, being under the influence of the presidential administration, said that we cannot use the notion “solidary” as there can be an association with the Party of Action and Solidarity. We reached a consensus with the PSA and decided to use the name “Alternatives and Chances”. PAȘ is not identical with PAS,” Svetlana Chesari stated in the electoral debates “You vote for you on ProTV”.
In the same debate, PUN leader Octavian Țîcu insisted on the idea of the union of the two Romanian states, saying this is the only viable option for taking the Republic of Moldova out of the current economic collapse. He denied the idea that he was the member of a number of parties before becoming the leader of PUN, saying he held the post of minister of youth and sport, being proposed by the Liberal Party, but was never a member of this party.
“We are those who fully assumed in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova the ideal of the reunion, but simultaneously remained anchored in the political realities of the Republic of Moldova. We are the MPs who revealed the “Bahamas” and “Kulyok” cases. If I do not enter Parliament, I will return to the university department and will continue my political activity (...) I wasn’t a member of the PL. I was the first who withdrew from Iurie Leancă’s party without being a member of this party when I realized that he was a tool of Plahotniuc,” stated the PUN candidate for MP Octavian Țîcu.
The election contender Party of Regions was also invited to the debate on ProTV Chisinau channel, but no representative of this party came.
