The leader of the National Unity Party Octavian Țîcu and the leader of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă, who was proposed by the UNION Electoral Bloc, were registered as competitors in the November 1 presidential elections. The decisions to this effect were approved by the Central Election Commission on October 5, IPN reports.
CEC member Sergiu Gurduza said that after verifying the subscription lists, of the over 19,000 signatures collected in 24 territorial-administrative units, more than 3,000 signatures were invalidated, but the remaining over 16,000 signatures enabled to register Octavian Țîcu as a contender.
For his part, CEC member Andrei Volentir noted that over 5,800 signatures of the more than 23,000 signatures collected in 28 territorial-administrative units were invalidated. The other signatures in support of Dorin Chirtoacă were classed as officially acceptable.
The CEC also registered the electoral symbols of the two election runners.
Therefore, eight candidates will be competing for office of President on November 1: Renato Usatyi (Our Party), Andrei Năstase (PPPDA), Tudor Deliu (PLDM), Igor Dodon (independent), Violeta Ivanov (Shor Party), Maia Sandu (PAS), Octavian Țîcu (PUN) and Dorin Chirtoacă (UNION Bloc).
