Octavian Armașu proposed for National Bank governor

Minister of Finance Octavian Armașu was suggested for the post of governor of the National Bank of Moldova. The announcement was made by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu before the November 29 siting of the legislative body, IPN reports.

Andrian Candu said the legislative body accepted the resignation tendered by Sergiu Cioclea, who achieved a lot in the financial-banking sector during his tenure. He built a good team, cooperated with the Government and Parliament and with the foreign partners. The successor as governor should meet the high standards set by Sergiu Cioclea.

According to the Speaker, Octavian Armașu is a highly-qualified specialist with professional and managerial skills. Together with the team of the Ministry of Finance, he managed to raise everything that is related to public finances to a high level. He has working experience in the private sector and in the public sector. Octavian Armașu was a good partner of governor Cioclea, including in the cooperation with the International Monterey Fund and the World Bank.

The nomination is to be debated in Parliament. If the candidate is accepted, the new governor will be named for a seven-year term. As to the person who will take over the Ministry of Finance, Andrian Candu said this decision will be taken by his political team after consulting the development partners and the Premier.
