The regime in the Transnistrian region cannot be called occupation one from the angle of international law, but it is an occupation regime from political viewpoint, said experts invited to the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

International law expert Vitalie Gamurari, spokesman for the Democratic Party, said that from the angle of international law, we cannot speak about an occupation regime in the Transnistria region and the Operational Group of Russian Forces in Transnistria are not occupation troops. “But from political viewpoint, there is an occupation regime,” stated Vitalie Gamurari.

Analyst Anatol Taranu said that from political viewpoint, different characteristics can be used for the Transnistrian region. According to international law, there is an anti-constitutional rebellion in the region. “There are two forms of military units in the Transnistrian region – paramilitary units of the separatist regime that obey no international law and are outside the law and are representatives of a foreign army subordinated to the military command of the Russian Federation, but stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova illegally, which is they have no legal status,” said the analyst.

According to him, the Russian military contingent has no legal status and can be classed as an occupation army. “How else can we call it? We cannot class it so from the viewpoint of international law, but can do it from political viewpoint,” stated Anatol Taranu.
