Observers accredited to oversee elections

The Central Election Commission on October 14 accepted the application of “Promo-LEX” Association to accredit 341 observers to supervise the November 30 parliamentary elections. The decision concerning the accreditation of the observers fielded by the Association “Moldova Tanara” (“Young Moldova”) will be taken in the next meeting owing to the shortage of votes, IPN reports.

CEC rapporteur on the decision concerning the application of “Moldova Tanara” Svetlana Gutu proposed rejecting it for a number of reasons. According to her, the extract presented by the association as regards its inclusion in the State Register of Non-Commercial Organizations expired in April 2014. The association’s leader Denis Dog is a member and candidate on the list of candidates of the Communist Party. In the local elections of June 2011, the observers of “Moldova Tanara” behaved violently and obstructed the work of the electoral bodies and were thus deprived of accreditation. Two of the observers of 2011 are on the list submitted by the organization for this year’s elections.

Denis Doga said that his political affiliation does not affect the activity of the public association that he heads. He denied that the list of 2014 includes persons involved in the incidents of 2011. According to him, the association wasn’t contacted by the CEC to be informed about the submitted documents, which are allegedly expired.

Svetlana Gutu’s proposal was rejected. Four of the six CEC members who attended the meeting voted in favor of rejecting the proposal, one member voted against, while another member abstained.
