Oazu Nantoi: Situation in Moldova is close to a catastrophe

The situation in the Republic of Moldova is close to a catastrophe. There is no rule of law and the perspective of the parliamentary elections was destroyed, programs director of the Institute for Public Policy Oazu Nantoi stated in a TV program, referring to the court’s decision to not validate the elections held recently in Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.

“What is going on today is very serious. There is no rule of law and the perspective of the parliamentary elections was destroyed. Free and fair elections cannot take place when the right to vote, which is a basic right, in capital city of the Republic of Moldova is thrown into a garbage bin. This shows the level of degradation of that group of people who impose such decisions. I consider the situation is close to a catastrophe,” Oazu Nantoi said in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.

According to him, what is happening now shows the goal is to definitively usurp the power and this will lead to Moldova’s international isolation. “Who does not want to see this should get drunk on pure water,” he stated, noting the current political class cynically splits and contraposes the citizens of the Republic of Moldova according to different criteria.

Oazu Nantoi said the Republic of Moldova turned into a North Korea of Europe because what is going on is outrageous and absolutely incompatible with the standards of the European Union. “Consequently, we will witness an iron curtain and could be even stripped of the right to travel freely,” he stated.

General Anton Gamurari, veteran of the Nistru armed conflict, considers the government is extremely afraid of such persons as Andrei Nastase as he will take measures to see those who violated the law until now held accountable if he comes to the City Hall. “There fear is great and they thus take such acts given that they manage large sums of money,” he stated.

In the evening of June 21, the Chisinau Appeals Court upheld the Court of Chisinau’s decision to not validate the election of Andrei Nastase as mayor of Chisinau. While the judges were in deliberations, sympathizers of Andrei Nastase were protesting in front of the Court and of the City Hall, demanding to validate the election.
