Oazu Nantoi: My step is more serious than fuss in Parliament
Oazu Nantoi said the step he took is much more serious than the fuss witnessed in Parliament during the last two years, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I discussed with Filat for almost an hour and with Mihai Ghimpu. Mister Diacov did not answer the phone. He was probably pondering how serious my step was. I took the step. It was a conscious challenge. Now they should give a clear answer: will the candidates be registered; will the presidential elections take place or we will follow again the road to shame, betrayal and search for solutions,” Oazu Nantoi said in the program “Fabrica” on Publika TV.
The director of the Public Policy Institute Arcadie Barbarosie considers that the Alliance for European Integration must prove maturity. “The leaders of the AEI were surprised and some of them probably gabbled on the phone. The Communists’ representative had a stupid reaction. This is not a trap,” he stated. According to him, the politicians have not yet realized who they need and do not have a list of criteria how to elect the candidate. Now the parties of the AEI are put in a difficult situation and have to explain why Leonid Talmaci (who was proposed by the Communists – e.n.) is not good,” said Arcadie Barbarosie.
Political analyst Igor Botan said that Oazu Nantoi assumed responsibility for saving the community and breaking the ice. “His message had a fantastic effect on society. Immediately after the news conference, the PCRM had a meeting and proposed their candidate,” he stated.
The Constitutional Court on January 12 is to examine unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea’s application concerning the legality of the December 16 elections. Igor Botan believes that nothing special that can affect the situation will happen. “The Court changed the practice and does not announce the decision the day it was taken. Now that we have two candidates, it is absurd to stop the process several days before the event,” the analyst said in the same program.
New presidential elections are to take place on January 15. January 12 is the deadline for submitting applications for being registered as presidential candidates. Oazu Nantoi put himself forward for President, while the PCRM fielded former central bank governor Leonid Talmaci.
An expert in the Transnistrian issue, Oazu Nantoi works as program director at the Public Policy Institute. In 2000, he was the PSDM’s candidate for the presidential elections. He then withdrew from the political arena, but in 2007 joined the Democratic Party of Moldova. After the local elections of this year, he became a Chisinau councilor. In March 2007 – July 2011, he had been a member of the Democratic Party of Moldova.
