Oazu Nantoi, as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, came with an open letter addressed to the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau an all Moldova, His Holiness Vladimir, whereby he expresses his conviction that the Metropolitan Church of Moldova should take attitude to the risk of a new war in Ukraine. In such a situation, it is opportune for the Metropolitan Church to make a call to all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova for unity and solidarity based on the Christian values.
“It is time to see that the Metropolitan Church is near the people of the Republic of Moldova, belongs to the Republic of Moldova and is not an ideological extension of the Russian Orthodox Church,” Oazu Nantoi stated in a press briefing at IPN.
According to him, the Pope of Rome Francisc on January 23 said that he was following with concern the rising tensions that threaten to inflict a new blow to peace in Ukraine, and put in question the security in Europe with even wider repercussions. Addressing the faithful who came together in Saint Peter’s Square, the Pope of Rome Francisc asked to set January 26 as the Day of Prayer for Peace in Ukraine and to have a dialogue for solving the crisis.
“In connection with this, it is normal to wonder what the position of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova is on the crisis around Ukraine, on the imminent risk of a new large-scale armed conflict with multiple casualties in the neighboring country, which can affect us, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, collaterally,” said Oazu Nantoi.
He also said that a number of questions as to the Metropolitan Church of Moldova’s position on state problems accumulated. “I do not understand why the Metropolitan Church of Moldova for years has tolerated the anti-state activities of the archbishop of Tiraspol and Dubăsari Savva Volkov, who is a member of the Synod of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova? Because the clergy on the left side of the Nistru is at the beck and call of the regime from the left side of the Nistru, which defies not only the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, but also the basic human rights,” stated Oazu Nantoi.
On October 19, 2017, the archbishop and Oleg Obruchkov, the so-called minister of defense of the regime from the left side of the Nistru, signed a cooperation agreement under which the military of the regime’s paramilitary troops will attend “patriotic education” courses. “The only porpoise of these paramilitary troops is to defend the regime from the left side of the Nistru, while “patriotic education” implies that the persons recruited into these units should fire on the citizens of the Republic of Moldova if they receive such an order,” said Oazu Nantoi.
He reminded that by Decree No. 608 of October 25, 2018 that was signed by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, Nicolae Cantarean (civil name of Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir, e,n.) was awarded the Order of Friendship for considerable contribution to preserving the Russian cultural and spiritual inheritance in the Republic of Moldova and for fruitful activities aimed at strengthening the Russia-Moldovan cooperation.
“We are now in 2022 and we, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, need peace, unity and responsibility. I think it is the moral duty of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova to contribute to this by taking attitude to the risk of a new war in the neighboring country and to call on the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to show unity and solidarity based on the Christian values,” says the letter signed by Oazu Nantoi.
