Oazu Nantoi about Parliament Statement: It is necessary, but belated

The Parliament’s Statement on the latest developments in the Transnistrian region is necessary, but belated, considers expert in the Transnistrian issue Oazu Nantoi. In the program “Politica” on TV7 channel, he expressed his regret at the fact that a tense situation was needed in the region to make the lawmakers address this issue, IPN reports.

The expert said that a statement is however not sufficient as the problem cannot be solved with documents of the kind. “Such problems as the conflict in the eastern districts cannot be solved for the sake of electoral goals and make so that the success comes exactly on elections. Concerted and consistent effort is needed,” stated Oazu Nantoi.

He also said it is good that the Parliament realized the seriousness of the situation. “Moldova’s statehood can be strengthened as a result of a partnership with the EU and the Vilnius Summit must bring a prospect for strengthening it,” stated the analyst.

In the same program, political analyst Igor Botan said that if Parliament adopts a statement, both the government and the opposition, it will be a pale statement that will contain nothing about the European integration. It will refer only to the 5+2 format and the mutual trust and will be aimed at calming things down.

In the June 20 sitting, Parliament held parliamentary hearings on the situation in the Transnistrian region. At the end of the sitting, the lawmakers informed that a joint statement will be adopted in the June 21 meeting.
