Number of viral infections on the rise
The number of respiratory viral infections has slightly increased compared with the last few weeks. No case of flu has been reported so far. There were yet detected viruses that cause non-flu infections.
Petru Scoferta, of the National Scientific-Practical Center of Preventive Medicine, has told Info-Prim Neo that compared with the 50th week, when there were recorded over 5,100 cases of viral infections, the 51st week saw by 100 cases more. In more than 700 cases of the over 5,200 recorded, the persons were hospitalized. The number of viral infections is typical for this period of the year.
According to Petru Scoferta, the children represent most of the infected persons as they are more vulnerable to disease. The symptoms of viral infections include nasal secretion, coughs, sneezes, sometimes fever and headaches. As most of the viral infections are transmitted by air, it is recommended avoiding crowded places, covering the mouth with a handkerchief when coughing and sneezing, and wearing a protection masks when coming into contact with infected persons.
In order to prevent infection, it is also recommended eating fruit that contain vitamin C, like lemons, gooseberries and blackcurrant, as well as garlic and onion as they destroy microbes. A healthy life style, without cigarettes and alcohol, also makes the body more resistant to viral infections.
