The number of Ukrainian refugees who are currently in the Republic of Moldova has decreased. The Unified Crisis Management Center on March 8 reported 128,700 refugees who stopped in Moldova, but today the figure stands at 102,800 persons, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the tendency is due to the effort to help the Ukrainian citizens reach EU member states. The refugees are transported by air, rail and road to other destinations.

Over 240 bus routes were operated on March 8-13 and more than 8,000 persons were transported by these. Another over 4,000 Ukrainians reached Romania by commercial trains and the special Căușeni – Chisinau – Iasi rail route organized by the Unified Crisis Management Center. During March 8-14, 2022, flights to transport over 1,400 refugees were operated to Israel, Bulgaria, Turkey and Germany.

According to the Government, the citizens who come to Moldova from Ukraine continue their way to other countries by personal cars or are helped by Moldovans to cross the border with Romania.

Of the 102,800 refugees who are now housed by Moldova, 48,400 are children. There are 96 authorized placement centers, two emergency shelters and hotspot centers organized by the Ministry of the Interior. A part of the refugees were accommodated in pensions, hotels and homes of Moldovans. Over 4,000 places are currently available at the authorized placement centers.
