About 2,000 persons in Tiraspol became unemployed in October alone. Another 5,400 Tiraspol residents remained without a job during January-September 2008. 60% of these were women. A number of 22,000 people applied to the Tiraspol Employment Office over nine months, the institution’s director Snejana Cernogor has told Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent. According to Transnistrian statistics, the employees in Transnistria’s sectors of the economy, except small business, totaled 114,300 on June 1. For comparison, there are 130,000 pensioners in the region at present.
