The number of subscribers to pay-TV services in the first nine months of this year diminished by 1.8% compared with the corresponding period last year, to 279,500. But the revenues on this segment of the market rose by about 2.6% to over 124.3 million lei, IPN reports, quoting the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communication and Information Technology (ANRCETI), IPN reports.
On October 1, 2013, the pay-TV penetration rate per 100 people was 7.85%. Of the total of 279,500 subscribers, 74.5% were connected to cable TV, 21% to TV based on the IP TV technology, 2.7% to satellite TV networks (DTH), while 1.8% to MMDS networks.
According to ANRCETI, the reduction in the number of subscribers to pay-TV is due to the migration of cable TV subscribers to other program reception platforms, in particular broadband Internet.
The number of subscribers to TV services provided through the IP technology rose by 25% (11,900) to 58,700, while of subscribers to cable digital TV – by 6.6% (3,000) to 48,900.
There were 102 providers of pay-TV services in Moldova in the period. The most important market shares in terms of turnover were held by SRL “Sun Communications” – 30.7%, SA “Moldtelecom” – 24.2%, SRL “Focus sat” – 5.7%, SRL “AMT” – 4.5%. The other providers had a market share of 34.9% together.
