Seven in ten high school students passed the Baccalaureate exams three years ago. During the 2017 session, nine in ten students passed these exams. The exam pass rate for students who studied exact sciences at theoretical lyceums is 91.34%, while for those who studied humanities is 91.99%. In 80 lyceums, all the students passed the Baccalaureate exams and in only one lyceum the average exam pass rate does not exceed 50%. The data were presented in a news conference on November 16, IPN reports.
Of the 80 lyceum where all the students passed the exams, each fourth institution is from rural areas. Head of the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment Anatol Topala said the good results in the Baccalaureate exams are due to the more responsible work done by students and teachers. “The exams are held correctly, meritocracy prevails and the students know that if they have higher grades, they will have higher admission chances,” stated Anatol Topala.
Rodica Josanu, head of the Law Division of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said the Ministry in November will present the draft regulations on the organization and holding of the next Baccalaureate session for public debates. The Ministry undertook to cover the costs of the continuous professional training courses for teachers with state budget funds totaling 17 million lei. Also, the school program will be reviewed as it is now too heavy.
