The local authorities in Chisinau reported an increase in the number of refugees who come to municipal placement centers intended for refugees. “We developed a resilience plan to activate other placement centers, if need be. We will be prepared. We know that we have sufficient accommodation places with beds, mattresses and all the necessary hygiene products,” the chief health officer of Chisinau Boris Gîlca stated in the ordinary meeting of municipals services.
Boris Gîlca said he was surprised to find out that some of the refugees are referred to other centers, outside Chisinau, even if the capital city has the best infrastructure and the best and largest number of accommodation places, IPN reports.
The chief health officer underlined the importance of ensuring the provision of continuous assistance at the temporary placement center at Patria Lukoil in Râșcani district, which has 250 accommodation places and the number of places there can be yet raised. This center provides essential services for refugees, such as accommodation, social and medical assistance, psychological support, activities with children, logistical and other types of support needed for transporting refugees to other countries. Food and nonfood parcels continue being distributed there to all the refugees from Monday through Friday. The supplies are replenished by local donor businesses.
Since this center was opened, food and nonfood products were offered to almost 4,000 persons, 17% of whom went there for the second time.
