Number of polling places abroad to be announced by January 19

By January 19 this year, the Government must adopt the decision concerning the number of polling places that will be established outside Moldova for the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. Almost 25,000 registrations beforehand were submitted to the Central Election Commission by Moldovans who settled abroad and ask for polling places to be established in the area where they live, IPN reports.

CEC president Alina Russu, after the January 10 meeting, said there are over 1,200 localities abroad where Moldovans would like polling places to be established. The Moldovans from the diaspora and from the security zone in Transnistria could register in advance for the February elections by January 9, 2019.

According to Alina Russu, the information about the registration in advance can be transmitted to the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, which will decide the number of polling places abroad.

A number of 100 polling places were established abroad for the presidential elections of 2016.
