Almost 2,000 drivers have been caught driving under the influence by the police this year. Of these, more than half have been punished criminally, IPN reports, quoting the National Patrolling Inspectorate.
To establish the fact that alcohol was consumed and the degree of inebriation of the driver, the police use the Dragger electronic device that was homologated and certified in accordance with the law. It provides exact information about the presence of alcohol in the air expired by the drivers. The result of the test represents a proof.
Under the legislation, the maximally admissible concentration of alcohol is 0.15 mg/l in the expired air and 0.3 g/l in the blood. The Code of Administrative Offenses provides a fine of 3,000 lei and ban on driving for a period of up to three years for driving under the influence. In case of advanced inebriation, the driver risks being penalized criminally, with fine of up to 10,000 lei, community service and ban on driving for a period of three to five years.
