Number of offences committed by minors in Transnistria is increasing

A special rehabilitation center for minors deprived of parental care is planned to be opened in Tiraspol, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in the Transnistrian region reports. This category includes not only children from needy families, but also those whose parents went to work abroad. The number of offences committed in Tiraspol by minors, many of whom are supervised by relatives or friends as their parents are abroad, in the first quarter of this year increased twofold compared with the corresponding period last year (56 and, respectively 26). Among the most frequent offences are the thefts, robberies and acts of hooliganism. The Tiraspol-based commission for minors keeps 329 persons under supervision. One of the most shocking cases in the past few years was the mistreatment of a 76-year-old woman by three girls aged 12, one of whom lived in the same part of building as the old woman. The minors went to the woman’s place on the pretext of asking her is she needs something. When they entered the apartment, they attacked the woman, started to beat her and, as it was written in the legal case, “committed violent acts of sexual character”. The girls took an old dressing gown, a coat and several books. A. Lesnicenco, A. Macovei and A. Suhodelischii, found guilty of killing two residents of Slobozia town, were sentenced to imprisonment for different terms. The minor Suhodolischii, finding out that a family of old people had savings of 200 rubles (the equivalent of 300 lei according to the exchange rate of 2006), told the friends about that and they decided to rob them. The minors entered the old people’s house and asked money. The man and woman refused and the boys started to beat them. Afterward, they axed them.
