Number of motorcycle accidents on the rise, police issue warnings

The number of road accidents that involve motorcyclists increased during the last two years. As many as 21 persons died in such accidents last year. Another 165 persons suffered traumas. Now that the weather grows warmer and more motorcycles appear on roads, the police have issued warnings.

“The motorcyclists should realize that if they do not obey the rules, they expose themselves to big risks that can lead to serious consequences, such as injuries and even death among drivers and innocent persons,” press officer of the National Patrolling Inspectorate Natalia Golovko stated for IPN.

The Inspectorate warns the drivers to wear protective helmets, not to speed and not to drive under the influence of alcohol. The motorcyclists are recommended to always keep the lights on and to travel so that the drivers could see them in the rearview mirror. Increased attention is required when the roadway is wert and there are sand, gravel, holes and other obstacles on the road that can seriously affect adhesion and can generate accidents.

At turns, the motorcyclists should travel at moderate speed and should always try to have a visual contact with drivers who could intersect their trajectory. It is recommended wearing protective clothing intended for motorcyclists and reflective vests when visibility is poor.

Exaggerated confidence in the own forces, non-awareness of the technical particularities of the vehicle, lack of driving experience, aggressive driving and driving under the influence are among the factors that increase the risk of road accidents.
