Number of millionaires goes up. Youngest millionaire is 19, oldest one is 82

As many as 4, 810 persons obtained incomes of over 1 million lei last year, up about 800 taxpayers on a year before. The highest income declared by a private individual was 43.8 million lei. The youngest millionaire is 19, while the oldest one is 82. The data were presented by the director of the State Tax Service Petru Rotaru in a news conference, IPN reports.

The total incomes of the persons with earnings of over 1 million lei came to 17.69 billion lei. The tax paid on these incomes was 1.45 billion lei. For comparison, in 2021 these incomes added up to 12.82 billion lei, while the tax to 837.9 million lei. Petru Rotaru said the youngest millionaire works in the IT sector.

He noted that 104,965 tax returns were submitted for 2022 by persons who carry out economic activities, while 175,835 tax returns – by private individuals-taxpayers who carry out entrepreneurial activities.

As regards the taxpayers who are private individuals, the incomes declared by these for 2022 totaled 98.2 billion lei. This is the income earned by 1.53 million persons. The income tax withheld at the source of payment and declared was 7.2 billion lei. The salaries represented 74.13% of the total incomes earned by private individuals, followed by dividends – 12.92% and by incomes earned from leasing out movable and immovable property, except for farmland – 3.1%.

The business entities in 2022 earned 639.3 billion lei incomes and incurred 586.5 billion lei costs. Compared with 2021, the incomes are by 127.4 billion lei higher, while the costs are by 122.9 billion lei higher. The income tax paid by business entities for 2022 was 6.7 billion lei, up 0.9 billion lei on the income tax calculated for 2021.
