The number of health insurance policies purchased by Moldovans during the first two weeks of April rose seven times compared with the corresponding period last year. As many as 2,100 policies were bought during the first 13 days of April, President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying in a press briefing.

“All those who enter the country sign an own responsibility statement by which they promise they will buy a policy during 72 hours,” noted President Dodon.

In another development, the official said the Commission for Exceptional Situations decided to extend the period of accepting applications from those who ask for unemployment benefit. “At this stage, there are 21,000 unemployed persons in the Republic of Moldova. Over 3,800 of these were registered during the last few days,” said President Dodon.

Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu presented updated information about the infections with COVID-19. As many as 454 samples were processed by labs on April 14 and 86 of these turned out to be positive. One of the cases was imported, while the rest are cases of local transmission. The number of confirmed infections with the novel coronavirus rose to 1,799. A number of 135 persons administer treatment at home. These are cases of infection confirmed by the family doctor based on clinical and epidemiological criteria, in the absence of a test.
