The number of person having their data included in the State Register of Population has increased. According to the data of January 1, 2007, the Register contained information on 3,745,203 persons, which equals 95.08% of the total number of the republic’s population (including Transnistrian region). For comparison, two years ago this index represented 86.6%. According to the Ministry of Informational Development (MDI), this level has been reached thanks to the informational activity, held with the population via mass-media, meetings with citizens, utilisation of the MDI website. According to specialists, the further development of the State Register of Population will depend on the activity of registering civil status acts, using automatic procedure of registration, as well as improving the quality and the diversity of services provided to the population. The Ministry specifies that everything that is realised in its subdivisions is strongly connected with the activity of the State Enterprise “Registru”. Given the transfer of two main departments (of population’s documentation and transport registering) under the competence of the mentioned enterprise, the sphere of its activity increased considerably, including the management, preserving, development and utilisation of basic state registers. 7 concepts of state-level automatic informational systems have been worked out and approved by the specialists of the enterprise during 2006. There are other 15 worked out concepts at the stage of confirmation. In partnership with the Customs service, an automatic informational system has been worked out for registering foreign citizens at the points of crossing the state border. This fact will simplify the procedure of their registration. Within the SALT programme the works on the creation of the State Education Register started etc.
