Number of employees is decreasing

The number of employees in the Moldovan economy in the period of January – November 2007 was 620,800 persons, down by 25,300 persons, or by 3.9%, compared with the same period in 2006, Info-Prim Neo reports, with reference to recently published official data. The agricultural sector, like in previous years, heads the list as regards the number of wage-earners who left their job, registering a 17.7% decrease, followed by the industrial sector (by 6.2%), health care and social assistance (by 3.8%), education (by 2.9%) and transport (by 1.9%). At the same time, the number of persons employed in financial and constructions activities went up by 13.7% and 9.7%, respectively. The average monthly salary of an employee in the national economy in the period of January-November 2007 constituted 2,014 lei, increasing in real terms by 8.2% as against the same period of the previous year. The labour remuneration fund in the budgetary sector in the period January-November 2007 totalled 12.5 billion lei. On 30 November 2007, the salary arrears made up 89.8 million lei, decreasing by 24.9 million compared with 31 December 2006.
