Number of emigrants to amount to 1/3 of the labor market

The number of persons willing to emigrate is increasing, and by the end of the year, the figure of those left abroad will get to 30% of the labor force market of Moldova, says the „Economic Monitor”, publication of the Institute for Social Development and Initiatives (IDIS) „Viitorul”, launched on Thursday in Chisinau. According to experts, the existent misbalances of the labor force led to the aberrant situation when the employment does not represent a guarantee against poverty. This situation creates very high migration pressures on the social groups able to work and demotivate categories just entering the labor market. The decreased number of employees comes together with the critical deficit of highly qualified labor force. This is due to non-competitiveness of salaries paid in the national economy, instability of get employed and low efficiency of enterprises. In spite of the relative economic growth over the past 6 years, for the first time after 1999, IDIS „Viitorul” experts note a repeated increase of the poverty rate. In 2005, the number of emigrants increased by 14.3 % compared with 2005, or by 85.9% compared with 2000. In 2005, the population employed in RM constitutes 1,312 million persons, compared with 1,515 million in 2000. In 2006, the experts forecast a decrease of the number of employees in the economy up to 1.3 million persons.
