The epidemiological situation in the country worsened last week. The total number of cases of COVID-19 rose by 20%, while of deaths associated with the virus increased by 8%, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health Igor Curov informed at the beginning of the Government meeting, IPN reports.
“The infection rate rose to 1.05. This means we are facing a risk of substantial growth of the number of infected patients. The past week, we had 28 imported cases, mostly from the Russian Federation – 13. Four were imported from the UK, while the rest from other territories,” stated the functionary.
According to him, about 800,000 persons got vaccinated with the first dose, while over 380,000 got two doses. Igor Curov called on the population to get a vaccine against COVID-19 and to strictly obey the current restrictions.
In this connection, acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi called upon the people to show maturity. He noted the immunization rate of 14% is insufficient as the vaccination campaign started back on March 2. According to him, the population’s reluctance cannot be explained. If the people want to forget about restrictions, they should get a vaccine as this is the only solution.
According to the Ministry of Health, Moldova by July 13 got 257,588 cases of COVID-19, while the death toll stands at 6,214.
