Starting in September, the number of trolleybuses in circulation in Chisinau will be increased to cope with the inflow of students returning to classes. The augmentation was discussed at the City Hall’s meeting on Monday.
Public Transport head Vitalie Mihalache said that the Electric Transport Company is going to add an extra 50 trolleybuses on the streets. Meanwhile, the Bus Company will add 10 vehicles or so at first, and then look for solutions to add more to cope with the inflow of passengers.
Mayor Ion Ceban said that the municipality plans further purchases of large- and smaller-capacity vehicles for the public transit system. He requested a report on the transportation needs in the suburbs, adding that requests for route extensions have been submitted that require examination.
In this context, deputy head of Education Andrei Pavaloi recalled that primary school students in Chisinau are entitled to monthly tickets enabling them to travel for free on the public transport. The tickets are to be distributed by the Education Directorate to the principles and further to the parents.
