The cases of viral infections in the municipality of Chisinau last week were by about 50% higher in number, especially among children. Also, the number of cases of pneumonia among children grew by 18%, Vladimir Bolocan, deputy head of the Medical and Social Assistance Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council, stated in the meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.
The functionary warned parents to be cautious during the winter holidays as the risk of children suffering injuries at home and outside is high. “Talk to children about their behavior and personal security,” he urged.
According to Vladimir Bolocan, an increase in COVID-19 cases was reported last week, especially in serious and medium-severity ones. This way, “Toma Ciorbă” Infectious Diseases Hospital reached its maximum capacities as regards the available beds for COVID-19 and two wards are now full. Therefore, the COVID-19 Division of the Municipal Clinical Phthisiopneumology Hospital will be activated today so as to cope with the situation.
The functionary noted that flu vaccines are available at the Primary Health Care Clinic of “Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and also in all polyclinics of the municipality. He urged people to get vaccinated given the possible spread of bird flu.
An exceptional avian level situation was declared in Chisinau in connection with the detection by the National Food Safety Agency of outbreaks of avian influenza, including on the territory of the municipality Chisinau. The Commission for Emergency Situations of Chisinau municipality, together with the Agency, worked out an action plan for preventing avian influenza on the administered territory. The access of domestic birds to fields, lakes, rivers and illicit street trade with food products or live animals and also exhibitions and fairs with sale of live animals (birds, including decorative ones) are banned.
