Number of cases of violence among students on the rise
The cases of sexual abuse and violence among students are increasing in number and become harder to prevent. The psychological burden makes some of the children to commit suicide. The school heads, teachers and parents must know how to react in such cases and to help the children, deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Valentina Cujba said in a seminar, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Victoria Dochitcu, coordinator of the hotline of the International Center “La Strada”, said it became something ordinary in Moldova for the minors to become victims of sexual abusers from abroad who find them over social networking sites. The children often do not want to speak about what’s happened to them. If a change in the child’s behavior or language is noticed and if they come into possession of valuable objects and cannot explain where they took them from, the parents should react and discuss with them so as not to let them walk into the traps of the abusers.
It’s not right to believe that the rapists choose the victims only from among underage persons from socially deprived families. The children from wealthy families can also become their victims. The children who are not on friendly terms with the parents and whose parents are abroad are the most vulnerable, said Victoria Dochitcu.
Galina Chioroglo, inspector for the minors’ problems at the Buiucani Police Commissariat, said that 198 offenses involving minors were committed in the first ten months of this year. Fifty-eight cases were related to thefts in schools. The children’s behavior is often influenced by problems in the family, where they are not understood and heard by the parents.
The seminar was organized by the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport. It is the first of a series of seminars centering on sexual abuse and violence among students.
