Number of calls to 112 Service on January 1 up 25%

The 112 Common Emergency Telephone Service since 6pm on December 31 until 8am on January 1 dealt with 5,087 calls, an increase of 25% compared with the figures for the ordinary days. Most of the calls were received at midnight. Approximately 500 calls were made until 1am, IPN reports.

Ana Carpovici, PR specialist at the 112 Service, said that most often the people asked for an ambulance in cases of high blood pressure, stomachache or backache, breathing problems or weakness, with unclear symptoms. About 60 of those who phoned in the period had symptoms of COVID-19. Thirty persons confirmed with COVID-19 asked for an ambulance after their state of health worsened.

As to the emergencies in the responsibility of the police, the people called the 112 Service to report aggression on the part of inebriated persons, conflicts in the family or between neighbors.

On January 1, the 112 Service recorded almost 9,000 calls, almost half of which were non-urgent ones. Over 7,600 persons called an ambulance on the last day of 2020.
