Number of broadband Internet users up 32%
The users of broadband Internet services in 2011 increased in number by over 32% to more than 355,000, the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) has said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The users of mobile dedicated services (through modems and data cards) numbered 124,000. This figure covers the active subscribes and does not include the subscribers to voice services who use mobile Internet access as the main service.
The number of users of xDSL technologies (Digital Subscriber Line) rose by 19.4% to 196,000, while of those who used FTTx technologies (Fiber to the premises) grew by 48% to over 141,000.
As a result of the rise in the number of subscribers, providers’ sales of data transport and Internet access services at fixed points increased by 25.2% to 678 million lei. The sales of Starnet totaled 106 million lei, of SA Moldtelecom – 454 million lei, while of Orange Moldova – 27 million lei. The turnover of the other provides came to 90 million lei.
Forty-six providers operated on the data transport and Internet access services market last year.
